Wrap Them in Love: Foundation Seeks Blanket Donations for IDPs and Orphanages

Harmattan

As the chilly and dusty Harmattan season approaches, the Foundation for the Protection of Women and Children in Nigeria is rallying the troops for an important mission. Picture this: blankets, warm clothing, gloves, and cozy headgear being collected and distributed to those who need it most. We're talking about our Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and our fellow humans living on the streets, battling the harsh Harmattan weather.

And guess what? This mission aligns perfectly with the upcoming World International Girl Child Day on October 11th, 2023. We've got a double whammy of urgency here, folks. Thousands of IDPs scattered across Northern Nigeria are in desperate need of protection against the freezing temperatures that come hand in hand with this season. We can't let them suffer from cold-related illnesses any longer!

That's why Hajiya Ramatu Tijjani, the National President of our foundation, is calling on the big guns. We need the support of wealthy individuals, corporate organizations, companies, governmental bodies, and non-governmental organizations from all corners of the country. Your contributions are absolutely crucial in providing warm clothing to those in need. But hey, it's not just about the big players. We need individuals like you and me to pitch in too! Don't forget to donate your spare Harmattan clothing to your local churches and mosques. They'll make sure it reaches those less fortunate, shielding them from the harsh Harmattan conditions.

Let's make our places of worship collection centers for donations, especially for orphanages and street children. It's time for us to come together as Nigerians and donate cold-protective clothing. Together, we can put a stop to the spread of diseases and respiratory infections that tend to rear their ugly heads during the Harmattan season. We're talking conjunctivitis, asthma, coughs, catarrh, and tonsillitis, folks. Let's keep our fellow Nigerians safe and healthy!

Now, let's talk about the unique challenges that Harmattan brings. It doesn't just affect our skin and hair, but our overall well-being too. With the season looming, we can't ignore the urgent needs of IDPs, beggars, and destitute individuals, including countless orphans. They need our support, and they need it now!

Unfortunately, the rise in banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism has led to a staggering number of displaced persons across Northern Nigeria. This is a wake-up call for all of us. We need to raise awareness and rally public support for those in vulnerable situations. While we're busy preparing ourselves and our families for the cold season, let's not forget about those who struggle to stay warm. We're talking about street beggars, destitute individuals, and IDPs who don't have the resources to protect themselves.

And let's not overlook the wise words of Mallan Gambo Abdullahi Barnawa Kaduna, a Muslim scholar. He reminds us of the blessings that come with donating clothing or blankets to those in need. Even the Almajiri children, with their tattered and dirty clothes, deserve a chance to improve their lives. Every little act of kindness counts!

But that's not all. Comrade Rilwanu, the National President of the "Beyond the Border of Disability in Nigeria" association, sheds light on the neglect and stigmatization faced by physically challenged individuals in our country. It's time for the government to step up and provide support during times of disaster. We must protect and assist our vulnerable communities in every season. This responsibility belongs to all of us, my friends.

So, as the Harmattan season draws near, let's band together and make a difference. Let's collect those blankets, warm clothing, gloves, and headgear. Let's shield our fellow Nigerians from the cold and dusty conditions that Harmattan brings. Together, we can bring warmth, comfort, and hope to those who need it most. Join us in the Harmattan Aid Drive and let's make a lasting impact!
