Group frees 7 inmates, support VVF patients, orphanage with food stuff

Seven inmates have been freed from the Zaria Correctional Centre with token of twenty thousand naira each to serve as transport fares to their respect destinations.

The inmates who are all males were from the two religious background- Islam and Christian and are largely people with minor and bailable offences.

The group under the auspices of "TJ Media Centre" said the gesture was part of initiative to mark the one year in office of Dr Abas Tajudeen as Speaker of the National Assembly.

Malam Lawal Shehu Aliyu, leader of the group while speaking to Daily Trust in Zaria said assorted food stuff and basic needs including Pads, Detergent, Soap and a token sum of ten thousand naira was also presented to each of the 50 Vesicovaginal fistula (VVF) patients in Gambo Sawaba General Hospital, Zaria.

He said the group realized that VVF patients were "mostly neglected and abandoned set of people" who requires routine assistance hence the reason for the gesture.

"We have also visited and donated cartons of football, children drinks noodles and bags of Rice to the orphanage home in Tukur tukur, Zaria.

"This is also to identify and show love to the children who lost their parents as well as provide them with the joy that most of our children enjoy while at home." He said.

Aliyu who is the Special Assistant to the Speaker on New Media further stated that similar gesture was extended to 50 patients each at ABU teaching hospital tudun wada and Muslim hospital in Dan Magaji where ten thousand naira was presented to each of them to alleviate their hardship.

According to him, the sum of three point five million naira (N3.5m) has been expanded for the one day memorial visit.

In their separate remarks, Ibrahim Rambo, Comptroller, Zaria Correctional Service, Sarki Muhammad Awai, Home Leader, Tukur-tukur Orphanage Home,
Malama Maimuna Ibrahim, Head of Nurses, Gambo Sawaba General Hospital, kofar gayan, Zaria applauded the gesture.

They urged other groups, non-governmental organizations and individuals to emulate the gesture by assisting generously to compliment government effort in improving the social well being of the citizens.
