Former Senator Shehu Sani has challenged the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) over their claim regarding the salaries of Nigerian senators.
Sani accused RMAFC of evading the true figures by asserting that senators earn only N1 million per month, while he had previously claimed they receive a monthly running cost of N13.5 million in addition to a N750,000 salary.
In a statement posted on his X handle, Sani criticized RMAFC for focusing solely on the salary figure without addressing the total monthly running costs. He remarked, "RMAFC quoted the salary figure but avoided discussing the full amount of the monthly running costs per legislator. I can understand their concerns."
This controversy follows former President Olusegun Obasanjo's recent criticism of federal lawmakers for allegedly setting their own salaries, which he condemned as "immoral."
