BREAKING: Two PDP Lawmakers Defect to APC
In a dramatic political shift, two members of the House of Representatives have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The move, announced earlier today, marks another shake-up in the composition of Nigeria’s lower legislative chamber.
Hon. Jallo Hussaini Mohammed, who represents the Igabi Federal Constituency in Kaduna State, formally announced his defection from the PDP to the APC. His decision was made known during plenary, catching the attention of fellow lawmakers and political observers alike.
Similarly, Hon. Adamu Tanko, the lawmaker representing Gurara/Suleja/Tafa Federal Constituency of Niger State, also tendered his defection notice to the APC. His switch adds to the growing list of legislators aligning with the ruling party ahead of future political realignments.
Both lawmakers cited undisclosed political reasons for their decisions, although sources suggest growing dissatisfaction within the PDP may have influenced their actions. The APC leadership has since welcomed the defectors, describing their move as a boost to the party’s strength in the National Assembly.
The defections are expected to spark reactions from the PDP leadership, which has faced increasing internal challenges in recent months. Political analysts say the development could further alter the balance of power as the country inches closer to the next electoral cycle.
